Biography
 

The 6th successor to the highest stratum of Armed Police Force, Inspector General Shailendra Kumar Shrestha assumed the responsibility of the Organization Chief on 29th July, 2011 as per the decision of the Government of Nepal.
Inspector General Mr. Shrestha was born in Pyuthan, Khalanga on 20th November, 1960. He completed his schooling from Nepalgunj and graduated from Tribhuwan University with a Bachelor of Law degree. Besides, he obtained his second graduation from the then Royal Nepalese Army Command & Staff College Shivapuri. Likewise, he attended Senior Executive Development Program offered by Nepal Administrative Staff College Jawalakhel. Inspector General Mr. Shrestha is married to Dr.Anarkali Shrestha and has two children; son Atul Shrestha and  daughter Ashna Shrestha.
Inspector General Mr. Shrestha began his Military Service career in 1982 as a second lieutenant in the then Royal Nepalese Army. Later in the year 2002, he switched over as Lieutenant Colonel of the then Royal Nepalese Army to Armed Police Force in the capacity of Senior Superintendent of Police. In his career of 29 years in the security force service of Nepal, he has successfully participated in numerous national and international courses, workshops and the training programs. Inspector General Mr. Shrestha has wide-ranging experience of various high profile commands, staff and instructional appointments. To mention a few of them are: Instructor of Officer’s Cadet Course, Combat Course Instructor of Nepalese Army Special Force Unit, Commandant of Armed Police Tactical Training College, Commandant of Armed Police Training school, Operation Officers in Anti Terrorist Joint Operating Cell,  Operation Officer in No.10 Brigade of Nepalese Army, GI Staff Officer in Director of Military Training Foreign Branch in Army H.Q, Operation Colonel in H.Q  No.6 Infantry Brigade, Acting Chief of Human Resources Department of APF.

 Some of the key appointments where he successfully commanded include an independent company in Panchthar, commanding officers of Special Force Unit of Nepal Army, commandant of Armed Police Force Training College Kakani, commanded APF Brigade as Regional Chief of Armed Police Force in Mid Region & Far Western Region and served as Head of Operation Department for more than a year and handled many political protest, Bandhas and crowd control situations effectively. He has performed his important responsibilities in making Armed Police Personnel effective and efficient as head of Human Resource Development Department, which is one of the significant departments to maintain working procedure of  Armed Police Force effectual, speedy, and transparent.

Over the years, Inspector General Shrestha has expanded his expertise and his reputation as one of the foremost security service professionals in the country. With the competencies he obtained from various trainings and the courses he attended, Inspector General Mr. Shrestha has stood up as a high profile officer with a set of high standard skills in all realms of Armed Police Force management. As he has spent substantial portion of service as instructor, he has focused on re-evaluating instruction methods and predicting future challenges, leading the organization make special task force training available whenever, wherever needed.
In the recognition of his exceptional and distinguished services, he has been awarded with various medals & decoration like US Peace Keeping Service Medal in UNIFIL, UN Mission BAR in UNGCI, UN Medal in Haiti, Pradesh Sewa Padak, Army Service Medal, His Majesty’s Crown Silver Jubilee Medal, Suprabal Gorkha Dakshin Bahu (Teshra) Padak and number of appreciation letter by APF H.Q and UN in the mission area for his outstanding services. He has served in UNFIL (1986), UNGCI (1992) & MINUSTAH Haiti (2006).
During his tour of duties, Inspector General Mr.Shrestha has visited more than 20 countries formally and informally including USA, UK, Switzerland, China, Germany, Japan, Italy, Netherland, Kuwait, UAE, Haiti, Iraq, Bangladesh, Israel, Lebanon, Dominical Republic, France, Monaco, Turkey, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Ukraine, Greece and Sri Lanka.
As an individual with high standard of integrity, he is committed to the magnification and development of the organization with due acknowledgement to the staff of all ranks and files.
